Liberty Blanket

MATERIALS:  (note: no specifics are given regarding weight, or yardage.  I am guessing this is a sport weight yarn, as the gauge is 5 sts/10 rows=1” on #5 needles)  The original pattern calls for “Fleisher’s Germantown Zephyr” described as a 4 fold, 1 oz. ball.

 

35 balls khaki, 3 balls red, 3 balls white, 3 balls blue.

 

1 pair ‘amber needles’ #5.

 

With khaki, cast on 315 stitches.  Knit 272 rows in garter stitch.

 

Flag:

 

Next 12 rows:

Odd numbered rows:knit 107 sts khaki, 58 red, 43 blue, 107 khaki.

Reverse the color work on the even numbered rows — 107 khaki, 43 blue, 58 red, 107 khaki.   (Note: the pattern doesn’t specify whether the flag is to be worked in garter or stockinette stitch; choose the look you prefer)

 

*Next 10 rows:

Odd numbered rows: Knit 107 khaki, 58 white, 43 blue, 107 khaki.

Even numbered rows: Knit 107 khaki, 43 blue, 58 white, 107 khaki.

Next 10 rows:

Odd numbered rows: Knit 107 khaki, 58 red, 43 blue, 107 khaki

Even numbered rows: Knit 107 khaki, 43 blue, 58 red, 107 khaki

 

Repeat from  * 3 times.

 

Next 10 rows:

** Knit 107 khaki, 101 white, 107 khaki.

Next 10 rows:

Knit 107 khaki, 101 red, 107 khaki.

 

Repeat from ** 2 times.

 

Next 10 rows:

Knit 107 khaki, 101 white, 107 khaki.

Next 12 rows:

Knit 107 khaki, 101 red, 107 khaki.

 

Knit 272 rows khaki, bind off.  Embroider 48 stars on blue.
